The Secret Valley

← indexNeighborhoodnext →

The Anderson Valley is comprised of four tiny communities: Yorkville, Boonville, Philo and Navarro. From Boonville looking northwest along the 128 corridor it becomes apparent why there is so little gentle ground available. The Valley is relatively narrow with the Anderson Creek and Navarro River running along the south edge of the hills. This north-facing side of the Valley has two or three routes to the sea that make great day trips. The homesteads on this side of the Valley are often in the trees. The south-facing hills, to the north and east, rise quickly out of the Valley floor and offer more oak studded landscapes.
Along Highway 128 you'll find fine wines available for tasting at several wineries. Most specialize in great Pinot Noir. Navarro Winery is known for many varietals, all of them delicious.
Bring a picnic. Even the locals like to spend an afternoon on the "Golden Mile" tasting and enjoying the vineyard views.
Boonville International — a VFR airstrip — asks one dollar per night for a tie down.
